History
Gas Monkey Bar N’ Grill opened in September 2013, and it is a restaurant that has a live music bar that can accommodate up to 1,200 people. The bar and grill are located at the former Firewater Bar and Grill in Northwest Dallas. Alex Mendonsa, a man who used to, ran the House of Blues Las Vegas, was hired to be Gas Monkey Bar N’ Grill’s new general manager. They also hired David Hollister, the guy who used to cook at H2 Gourmet Burger Company and Yucatan Taco Stand, as their manager in terms of culinary duties. Two days before the Bar and Grill opened, American rock band Old ‘97s was the first live performance at the venue. A year later, a second Gas Monkey Bar N’ Grill location was opened, and it is located in International Terminal D at the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport.
In 2014, Alex Mendonsa, Richard Rawlings, along with Peter Ore and brothers Dan and Mike Flaherty, established Gas Monkey Live, which was located where the former Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar and Grill’s location which was in Northwest Dallas. The Gas Monkey Live is a 38,000 square ft. facility, which is used predominantly for live music, and it can accommodate up to 3,000 people. During its opening day, the American punk rock band called Social Distortion performed at the location. Iconic American heavy metal band Motley Crue teamed up with American car manufacturer Dodge and performed at Gas Monkey Live for a free show, which was restricted only to owners of Dodge Challenger, Charger, and Viper cars. During the performance, Dodge launched their Dodge Charger SRT Hell Cat 2015 and the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat 2015.
In 2016, the company opened the third Gas Monkey Bar N’ Grill location, which is in Key West, Florida. The band Supersuckers performed at the bar during its opening night. In May that same year, an energy drink manufacturer decided to team up with Gas Monkey to create Gas Monkey Energy, and it was later added as a division of the Gas Monkey empire.
In September 2016, Richard Rawlings opened his new restaurant named Richard Rawlings’ Garage, which is designed to attract local residents because it gives off a “local hangout” vibe. The restaurant is located in Harker Heights, Texas, which used to be the former location of the sports bar named Twin Peaks. A year later, Rawlings announced that he was going to open a new location at Foxwoods Resort Casino.
