The Pearl Stable is an events place that is located north of downtown San Antonio, Texas. The site is an elegant venue for business events, social occasions, and weddings because it offers a unique experience as a top cultural and culinary destination. Aside from being a perfect venue for several occasions, the Pearl Stable has dining, retail, stunning green spaces, an amphitheater beside a river, and the home of the third campus of The Culinary Institute of America. But before it became the extravagant venue that we know today, the Pearl Stable has a rich history that is worth telling. That is why in this article, we are going to know more about it.
History and Design
The Pearl Stable was originally a barn that housed the Pearl Brewery’s draft horses. It was built in 1894, and it has a 19th-century Victorian design where the love of grandeur and fabulous ornaments are apparent. During the early 20th century, the horses were replaced by delivery trucks and beer wagons because the Pearl Stable began to be used as a storage. In 1950, the stable went through a drastic renovation as it altered its function from being a storage to a banquet facility. The windows were bricked in, they installed a suspended plaster ceiling, and removed the hayloft. Back then, it had a western-themed venue that has a stage and painted murals. Aside from that, there was also a bar they called the Safari Room. During that time, the Pearl Stable was named the Pearl Corral.
Over the years, the Pearl Stable has been remodeled and renamed. After some years, the management finally settled on the name Pearl Stable and opened the facility to the public in 2006. At the entrance, you will see pediment displays of the stables construction date, which is 1894.
In 2006, a piece of history of the Pearl Brewery returned as the Engine #2 of the Texas Transportation Company was given back to them after it was completely restored. Engine #2 served two Texas-based companies before coming to Pearl, who used it the most after the Texas Transportation Company decided to purchase it in 1948. Pearl used the engine to transfer hops, barley, and grain to the Brewery and to haul away Pearl Beer cases from 1949 to 2001. That is why today, Engine #2 is displayed in the Pearl Stable, and it is one of the few things that tells the history of Pearl Stable.
The Pearl Stable Today
As the years passed, the Pearl Stable continued to be remodeled, and today, the Pearl Stable’s exterior looked like much it did in 1894. Today, the 22-acre Pearl site is an events place, the home of the Culinary Institute of America, Hotel Emma, and the Pearl Farmers Market. Aside from that, you can also visit several restaurants such as the Boiler House Texas Grill & Wine, Bakery Lorraine, High Street Wine Co., Blue Box Bar, Lick Honest Ice Creams, Green Vegetarian Cuisine, Tenko Ramen, Fletcher’s Hamburgers, and Maybelle’s Donuts.
On the other hand, the Pearl Stable’s events area offers some fantastic amenities such as an indoor event space, reception area, ceremony area, on-site accommodations, and handicap accessibility. The Pearl Stable is ready and able to compete with other event halls because they also offer easy loading access for caterers, a full commercial kitchen, and a state-of-the-art theatrical sound and lighting system.
