Celina, Texas: Where History Meets Heart and Heritage

Welcome to Celina, Texas—a city where rich history meets vibrant community spirit.

Established in 1879 by pioneers seeking fertile land, Celina was named after Celina, Tennessee, the hometown of its first postmaster, John T. Mulkey. The arrival of the railroad in 1902 spurred growth, leading residents to relocate the entire town closer to the tracks—a monumental move that earned Celina the nickname ‘Rollertown.’

Today, Celina’s historic downtown stands as a testament to its storied past, with well-preserved architecture reflecting the city’s evolution over the decades.

Celina has been home to notable individuals, including former NFL player and sportscaster Craig James, and Major League Baseball pitcher Ryan Merritt, both of whom have brought pride to the community.

Visitors and residents alike can enjoy a variety of activities in Celina. Old Celina Park offers expansive recreational facilities, perfect for family outings and sports enthusiasts.

For wine aficionados, Eden Hill Winery provides delightful tastings set against the backdrop of a serene vineyard.

The historic downtown square, with its charming boutiques and eateries, serves as the heart of community events and festivals throughout the year.

Celina’s community spirit shines through its numerous events, such as the annual Cajun Fest, which has grown into one of the largest crawfish boils in Texas, and the monthly Friday Night Markets that bring together local artisans and families for evenings of fun and entertainment.
