As we mentioned, the Austin Bold FC competes in the United Soccer League Championship, Division II. The United Soccer League Championship is aa professional men’s soccer league in the U.S, and in 2017, it was sanctioned by the United States Soccer Federation as a Division II Professional League, which is why they were placed under Major League Soccer, Division I, in hierarchy.

The USL said that this merger aims to strengthen the league’s position in the American professional soccer landscape because it is has a more stable commercial growth, and it promotes professional development of soccer in the four main regions in the United States and Canada.

The USLC is formerly known as the United Soccer League and United Soccer League Pro. But in January 2013, the Major League Soccer and United Soccer Leagues agreed to integrate the USL league competition with the MLS Reserve League to improve player development in North America and build ties between leagues in the American soccer pyramid. This deal allows USL and MLS team affiliations as well as developing players.
