Houston Methodist Hospital
Houston Methodist Hospital is the academic medical center’s flagship quaternary care hospital. Houston Methodist Hospital, situated in the Texas Medical Center, was founded in 1919 as an outreach ministry of the Methodist Episcopal Church during the peak of the Spanish influenza epidemic. Houston Methodist comprises eight hospitals, a primary care group, an academic institute, and over 300 locations throughout the greater Houston area.
The hospital is recognized worldwide as “One of America’s Best Hospitals.” The hospital has achieved international acclaim in various specialties, including cardiovascular surgery, epilepsy treatment, cancer, and organ transplantation.
Houston Methodist System officially changed its name to Houston Methodist in 2013.

Before its acquisition in 2013 by Catholic Health Initiatives and subsequent co-ownership contract with Baylor in 2014, the hospital was known as St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital. It is situated on Bertner Boulevard in Houston’s Texas Medical Center. The hospital has 850 beds and is a Texas Heart Institute, clinical partner.

Memorial Hermann Greater Heights Hospital

Although not nationally ranked, this hospital is rated “high performing” in six procedures and conditions and five adult specialties. The following are the specialties:

Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center
Memorial Hermann–Texas Medical Center at the Texas Medical Center is a nationally ranked hospital. The first hospital was established in Houston’s Texas Medical Center (its founding antedates the Texas Medical Center).
It was founded in 1925 and served as McGovern Medical School’s primary teaching hospital and the flagship location for the Memorial Hermann Healthcare System’s 13 hospitals. It is among three Level I Trauma Centers in the Houston metropolitan area.
Memorial Hermann–Texas Medical Center is where the air ambulance service of Memorial Hermann Life Flight operates its fleet of helicopters. Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital provides pediatric care to the hospital, treating infants, teens, children, and young adults aged 0 to 21.
This hospital is nationally ranked in two pediatric specialties and one adult specialty and “high performing” in five procedures and conditions and three adult specialties.

Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital
Houston Methodist Hospital Sugar Land Hospital, situated in Sugar Land, Texas, is among Houston Methodist’s seven community hospitals. It has approximately 1,100 affiliated doctors, employs over 2,200 people, and admits over 17,000 patients per year. The hospital serves the residents of Fort Bend County and the surrounding areas.
Houston Methodist Sugar Land excels in three procedures and conditions and four adult specialties.
Gastroenterology and GI surgery, nephrology, geriatrics, and orthopedics are among the specialties. Colon cancer surgery, COPD, and heart failure are the procedures and conditions.

Memorial Hermann Memorial City Medical Center
This hospital in the Houston neighborhood of Memorial City is part of the Memorial Hermann Healthcare System and serves as the organization’s headquarters.
The hospital is in Memorial City, near the junction of Interstate 10 and Gessner Road. It has 427 licensed beds and a capacity of 647 beds as of 2009. It also has a total area of 2,500,000 sq ft (230,000 m2).
The hospital system consists of the East Tower, the Memorial Hermann Tower, the Heart, and Vascular Institute, the System Services Building (formerly the North Tower), and the original hospital building. The previous hospital is in the center of campus, surrounded by other buildings. The intersection of I-10 and Gessner, where the Memorial Hermann Tower was built, was previously vacant.
The first 15 floors were dedicated to inpatient services such as medical/surgical, cancer, and women’s services. The upper floors were used for physician offices, the system, and outpatient services.
