Besides the famous Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, Texas is also the home of The National Museum of the Pacific War at the east end of Main Street, and the Pioneer Museum, at the west end. Even if you don’t want to shop at the museums, they’re great places to start when walking around Fredericksburg downtown.

Most shops and boutiques close around 5 p.m. daily, but hours vary, so you should plan ahead, or you might miss that special thing.

There are public restrooms at the Pioneer Museum, the Marktplatz (Market Square), and the Visitor Information Center.

On busy days, finding a spot to park on Main Street can be hard. Go to the Visitor Information Center’s free parking lot at 302 East Austin Street, just a block off Main Street.

More than 700 historically impressive structures have been conserved in Fredericksburg’s historic area, making the city an ideal destination for history buffs.

The town was named after Prince Frederick of Prussia in the 1800s, and it even has its own dialect of German known as “Texas German.” This variant of German was used by early settlers who refused to give up their home tongue completely.

In the meantime, the National Museum of the Pacific War honors not only those who served in the Pacific theater of World War II but also local hero Navy Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz with six acres of grounds that feature artifacts and memorials. The museum is dedicated to all those who served in the Pacific theater.

Visit the Pioneer Museum, which highlights the German heritage of the area with exhibits of artifacts from the 19th century and regular walking tours of the area’s historic sites.

The Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park is the ideal venue to experience the environment that formed the personality, public policy, and enduring legacy of Lyndon B. Johnson, who served as the 36th President of the United States. The park is located nearby in Stonewall, Texas.

The park, roughly 675 acres in size, provides visitors with a range of possibilities to experience the local and regional setting that had a significant impact on the final president of the frontier states.

Fredericksburg’s central location in Texas, which is just over an hour from Austin or San Antonio and four hours from Houston or Dallas-Fort Worth, makes it a great spot to base a tour of the area while staying in a beautiful small-town setting.
