The San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo are one of the most significant events in San Antonio because it has about two million visitors every year. The Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association considers the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo as one of the United States’ top rodeos. For over 14 years, this stock show and rodeo were awarded the Large Indoor Rodeo of the year by the PRCA. Aside from the stock shows and rodeos, this event also has a carnival, entertaining, family-friendly activities and exhibits, and shopping and livestock shows. History

The first-ever San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo was held in 1950. And because of its success, it became an annual event that happens for over three weeks in February. Since then and up until 2003, the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo were held in the Joe & Harry Freeman Coliseum. The event organizers later decided to change venues and move to the AT & T Center to accommodate more people.

The San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo kicks-off its three-week celebration with the Western Heritage Parade and Cattle Drive. This parade gives the people a glimpse of the fantastic Texas heritage. The parade and cattle drive goes through the streets of Downtown San Antonio, and they have different participants, such as the Texas Longhorns, Fort Hood 1st Cavalry Division, and Fort Sam Houston Caisson. Eight days before the Stock Show and Rodeo happen, the South Texas Trail Riders travels about 140 miles carrying mules, horses, and wagons, which all help them prepare for the future activities.

Since the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo was established, it attracted thousands of guests from all across the country. Today, the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo is known for its dedication to showing the people the meaning of culture, heritage, family, and tradition in Texas.

Things to Do in San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo

  • Indulge in some live music every night – It doesn’t matter whether you’re into Latin music or rock music, because an artist or a band performs each night at the AT&T Center. All you have to do is head on down to the grounds at the Coors Cold River Saloon, Bud Light Courtyard, and Bud Light Rodeo Cantina to enjoy some live music.
  • Shop your heart out at The Shops at the Rodeo – This features over 250 themed retailers that showcase their products inside climate-controlled venues. Here you can buy different items, from accessories, agricultural commodities, leather goods, home furnishings, custom boots, jewelry, and clothing; the Shops at the Rodeo has it all for you. All you have to do is head on down to the Expo Hall 1 and 2 at the Freeman Coliseum.
  • Learn about horses and Rodeo at the Horse Discovery – This place enables us to find out more about horses and rodeo as a sport. Here, you can see exhibits that include horses’ display and their uses and role in today’s world. You can also have an up-close exploration of different rodeo events and watch some informative demonstrations about horse training methods.
  • Witness a pig race – If you haven’t witnessed a pig race, then you’re in for a treat. Here at the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo, you can watch pigs race to the finish line where an Oreo cookie is waiting on a silver platter.
