Howdy, partner! Welcome to Cut and Shoot, Texas. Now, I know what you’re thinkin’—that’s a mighty peculiar name for a town. Well, saddle up, ‘cause this little ol’ town’s got a story as big as Texas itself.
Back in the early 1900s, there was a dust-up over church land, and tempers flared hotter than a Texas summer. Legend has it, a young whippersnapper hollered, ‘I’m gonna cut ‘round the corner and shoot through the bushes!’ Folks liked the sound of it, and the name Cut and Shoot stuck tighter than a tick on a hound dog.
Now, this ain’t just any ol’ speck on the map. Cut and Shoot gave us Roy Harris, a heavyweight boxer tougher than a two-dollar steak. In 1958, he duked it out with Floyd Patterson for the heavyweight title. He may not have taken home the belt, but he put this town on the map and showed the world what Texas grit looks like.
And let’s not forget Elizabeth Ward, Miss America of 1982. Yep, this little town raised a queen who went and stole the show on a national stage. That’s a big ol’ feather in Cut and Shoot’s cowboy hat, wouldn’t ya say?
Even Mick Jagger, that rock-and-roll rascal, gave a shout-out to Cut and Shoot during a concert. Turns out, this town’s name rolls off the tongue just as smooth as Texas sweet tea.
But it ain’t all sunshine and bluebonnets. The town saw its fair share of scandal when Norman Wilkerson Jr. made headlines for some truly terrible crimes. That’s a dark chapter, no doubt, but this town’s got a way of holding its head high and pressing on.
Cut and Shoot calls Montgomery County home, a place steeped in Texas history. Did ya know this here county is the birthplace of the Texas flag? Not to mention it’s surrounded by the beauty of Lake Conroe and the Sam Houston National Forest. You can bet your boots there’s a heap of Texas pride here.
Nowadays, Cut and Shoot is a cozy little town of about 1,300 folks. They’re expectin’ it to grow like a spring prairie after the rain. With its quirky charm, it’s a place where neighbors still tip their hats and share a howdy.
So there ya have it—a town with a name, a heart, and a story as big as the Lone Star State. Cut and Shoot might be small, but it’s packed full of Texas-sized history and charm. Y’all come visit now, ya hear?”
